Hour 21. Network Management Protocols
What You'll Learn in This Hour:
Network management SNMP RMON
Network administrators use network management software and protocols to query devices such as routers, hubs, and servers that are located at remote network locations. These queries could determine, for instance, whether all the ports are operational, or what the average and peak datagrams processed per second values happen to be. This hour discusses some important protocols used to manage and monitor devices on TCP/IP networks. You'll learn about Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Remote Monitoring (RMON).
At the completion of this hour, you will be able to
Describe the software elements involved with network monitoring Discuss how SNMP exchanges information between a network monitoring agent and the network monitor Explain what a Management Information Base (MIB) is and how it is used Explain what RMON is and how it differs from SNMP
